The West High Entertainment Unit Parents Association, informally known as WHEUPA, was chartered by a group of active and involved parents in 1971. Originally, the group was known as the West High Band Boosters. The group's main purpose was to offer support, both physically and financially, to the endeavors of the West High Band and its auxiliaries. In time, the name was changed to fully include the parents of all three performing groups within the unit - the Band, the Drill Team, and the Tall Flag Team.

The main purpose of the Parents Association remains the same today. They are to provide assistance to the Director and the students through fundraising and logistical support. WHEUPA sponsors three major fundraisers each year beginning with the South Bay Invitational Field Tournament hosted at El Camino College in early October. The second fundraiser is the Christmas Tree Sales Lot in December and the third is Spirit Day, held the first Saturday in March each year. Spirit Day is an event in which numerous Pep Squads, Dance Teams, Drill Teams and Tall Flag Teams perform in competition.

The West High Entertainment Unit has a long and proud tradition of performing excellence. Likewise, the West High Entertainment Unit Parents Association also has a wonderful tradition of involvement, dedication and support of the students and their activities.
