Dear West High Entertainment Unit Students and Parents,
I have just received notification from SCSBOA (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association) that the fall marching band season has officially been cancelled. Due to the loss of our fall season and at our district’s instruction, band camp scheduled to begin August 10 is also cancelled. I recognize that many of you share my disappointment, but the safety of all of our members, families, and instructors is most important.
Right now, we don’t know exactly what the fall semester will look like at school, but my intention is to focus on small group musicianship and technique. Our district wide music department has been spending time each week planning and training for new technologies that we hope to imbed into our program. Our goal is to keep the instruction going throughout the changes that are happening with the hope that we will return to large group performance-based instruction in the near future, and the possibility of returning to a marching band format in the spring.
At this point, I ask each of you to hang in with me and keep the hope that things will return to normal soon. I wish I knew the answers to all of the questions I’m sure you have, but I can only answer what I know right now. Please stay safe and healthy, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Vince Banim
